GETTING CLOSER TO FINAL IDEA ...MAYBE?

Here is my latest idea.

I am calling it a concept. I fleshed it out more than my last other ideas. I feel there is still some work to be done on the game interactivity but here we go.

GAME CONCEPT > TAG NAME> DANGERZONE > RHYTHM ACTION GAME

Brother and Sister Sazer and Elektra are very close but more than that they are some of the best dancers in the world. They compete in tournaments around the world either together or separately they destroy the competition. Think of them as the Venus and Serena of dancing.

Lately, the world of dance has been shaken with the attack of a new challenger code named Dangerzone. To everyone’s surprise Dangerzone is not human but a state of the art computer.

A backlit floor filled with top of the line sensors that can read the actions of the challenger before it.

Dangerzone challenges its opponent by the persons ability to keep up with their speed and timing.

Stepping on the correct backlit cube at the same time it is highlighted by “Danger” what they call the computer for short seemed easy to most. So many laughed at the challenge made by it’s creator Edward Ewald.

But “Danger” has been wiping out contenders left and right bringing a new fear to the dance arena. Sazer and Elektra are determined to take down this computer, they refuse to let a computer be the replacement for true human skill. They are both planning to take on “Danger” alone promising that at least one of them will be the victor.

YOU ARE IN CONTROL, YOU ARE SAZER, YOU ARE ELEKTRA, CAN YOU HANDLE DANGERZONE?

GAME INTERACTIVITY> TAG NAME> DANGERZONE> RHYTHM ACTION GAME

· Isometric view or perspective view neon lit tile floor. Will change colors and or themes with music as level advances.

· Square shaped beams will come from top of screen, they will hit the floor inline with the backlit tile on the floor. You need to click the floor when these two objects collide.

· The beams will be dropping to the beat of the music so you need to be quick on your feet to get them all and get them in time.

· You miss the beat you lose live as Dangerzone isn’t called Danger for nothing. It gives you a shock to your body every time you miss decreasing your dancing ability, until you finally collapse.

· The more you hit perfectly in Dangerzone the more your combo racks up and you will gain power to your bonus state meter. When this bonus state meter is full you can choose when to activate it to double the score for every tile you hit perfectly.

New Ideas

Taking off from the two mechanic ideas I have so far. I tried to brainstorm themes for them.
They are going to be related to music, I of course thought of the word beat but that is too common so here are some others I found.

Vibrations
Ripples
Pulse

I am sure I can find more....

At the moment I like Pulse
I feel I could make the first mechanic idea work with this upon further study.

Some other words and definitions I encountered......

Pulse wave
Pulse is measured by beats per minute.
Pulse medical definition is the throbbing of a persons arteries as an effect of the heart beat.

Ripples

Ripples is interesting because I can picture perhaps a mechanic where you are completing an action that will send ripples to another to play automatically....which will start a chain reaction that translates to some sort of combo system.

Still more thoughts and ideas to come.......

Precedent games for drawing

Here are links to the games I did during spring semester involving drawing.
These games are more of interactive sketches and are not complete as of yet.

Collecting stars
Draw lines to collect the stars

Jealous Girls
Draw lines to block objects thrown at you and reflect them back at the girls

Control Freak
Get to the lockers safely by dodging incoming people and sometimes repelling them with your powers

For full explanation of these games go to Linkchain Minigames.
Gives you a full description of these games as well as the storyline and process behind them.

First Ideas!!!

I first and foremost wanted to decide what type of mechanic I would like to use. Since I have already done a lot of research discovering what mechanics are already out there and other things.

Here is a link to that research

Game Interaction Mapping

I decided I would like to stick with the mechanic I was working with during my spring semester at parsons which was drawing. Still I feel there are not enough games with a drawing mechanic and the ones that are available are too similar and not fun in my opinion.

Some themes I was thinking about are:

1.Paparazzi
2.Music
3.Dancing
4.Fireworks
6.Racing
7.Light

I did more research on the paparazzi theme because I found it the most interesting, and the most appropriate for the target audience.

Paparazzi is derived from an Italian word for mosquito. So already you can summarize this works as means an annoying pest.

Paparazzi is a name for photographers who run behind celebrities to get pics of them for money. They can shoot from afar and are often unseen. Again they receive large sums of money for their pics.

Precedent would be:

Paparazzi the game

What?!

I am creating this blog in order to keep track of my day to day processes in building my next game.
